International Passes: Icalma - Santiago Gaudio
Ricardo Druck Santiago Gaudio

This international pass connects the Chilean cities of Cunco, Pitrufquen and Temuco, with the Argentine city of Zapala, driving through Villa Pehuenia.

Icalma International Pass

You can drive to this pass on route S-61 Melipeuco-Paso Icalma. The distance from Temuco is 135 kilometers (84 mi).

The road runs through a spectacular volcanic landscape, millennial Araucaria forests (monkey-puzzle trees) and protected natural areas that are very important tourist attractions such as National Park Conguillio in Chile.

In Argentina it is a good idea to take provincial routes RP13 and RP23 to enjoy the Circuito Pehuenia, that runs through the cities of Villa Pehuenia and Aluminé bordering lakes Moquehue and Ñorquinco. The latter being the north border of Lanín National Park.

This pass is open all year round, but it is sometimes closed in winter due to weather conditions. In summer, the pass is open from 8am to 8pm, and in winter from 8am to 7pm.

The Immigrations Office requires an authorization to cross the border that needs to be requested in advance at the International Police headquarters in Chile (Address: Sotomayor 740 in Victoria, or Arturo Prat 19 in Temuco).
